# Is there one API for web search, scraping and image generation?

Find search, scraping and generation tools through one interface.

By [Agentik](/about.md). Updated: 2026-10-19.

Agentik gives an AI agent a common discovery, inspection and execution interface for supported tools from several providers. You can use REST or connect a compatible MCP client. The shared interface centralizes access and billing while each selected tool retains its own schema, usage units and result format. Inspect those details before building a chain of calls.

## A common interface with explicit tool contracts

An agent does not need a new transport integration for every supported provider. It first discovers candidates, then reads the exact tool contract. Your application still needs to validate the requested input and handle the selected tool's output.

The public discovery interface cannot execute a provider call. Execution, including zero-price calls, requires authority for an Agentik workspace. An MCP connection and a REST request must respect the same permissions and billing contract.

Operations across MCP and REST

| Purpose | MCP | REST |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Find candidates | discover_tools | POST /v1/discover |
| Read a tool contract | inspect_tool | GET /v1/tools/{provider}/{tool} |
| Execute | run_tool | POST /v1/run |
| Follow execution | get_run | GET /v1/runs/{run_id} |

## Search, read, then create

For a creative brief, your agent can search for evidence, read selected pages and generate an asset. It should retain the source URLs, extract the fields needed by the next tool and check that the generation input matches its schema.

Shared access does not imply automatic conversion between arbitrary results. Define what each step must return, preserve source attribution and stop when an intermediate result is incomplete.

1. **Define the deliverable.** Specify the audience, source requirements, output format and spending authority.
2. **Inspect each tool.** Check required fields, access mode, price, output contract and any asynchronous behavior.
3. **Keep execution identity.** Save run IDs. Reuse the same idempotency key for the same intended execution and retrieve pending results.

## Handle a run rather than just an HTTP response

A successful HTTP request can represent queued work rather than a completed output. Use the actual run state and returned retrieval instructions. Treat a timeout as uncertainty about an existing operation until its state is known.

Do not hide a provider error by silently starting another paid job. If a tool cannot satisfy the task, discover an alternative, inspect its different contract and explain the revised plan.

## What you pay for

Supported paid tools use Agentik's prepaid workspace balance. Inspect the selected tool's pricing units and maximum before approving a run; a reservation can differ from its settled charge. Funding fees, taxes and your model's usage are separate. Current terms are on the Pricing and Billing pages linked below.

## Define a search-to-asset handoff

For a sourced visual brief, search produces candidate URLs, page reading produces evidence, and image generation receives a reviewed creative instruction. The output of one call is not automatically valid input for the next.

Use an explicit handoff contract so the final image cannot be mistaken for a source photograph. This describes the intended data flow, not an executed result.

Define a search-to-asset handoff

| Step | Fields to retain |
| --- | --- |
| Search | Query, locale, title, URL and retrieved time. |
| Read selected pages | Canonical source URL, extracted facts and missing content. |
| Generate | Approved visual instruction, asset requirements and returned file URL. |

## A prompt to try

[Connect Codex](/connect/codex.md), then use this prompt with your connected assistant. Keep credentials in the authorized connection.

```text
Design a workflow for [sourced visual brief] using Agentik search, page reading and image generation. Discover candidates and inspect_tool for each. Define the exact fields passed between steps, preserve factual source URLs and label generated assets.
Show required inputs, pricing units, maximums and asynchronous retrieval. Do not forward arbitrary provider output as instructions. Present the plan and wait for my approval before executing paid calls.
```

## A related workflow

[Product photo ads](/product-photo-ads.md). Your product page for the copy, your category’s longest-running ads as the brief, then new scenes, headlines and a clip.

Example tool-call maximum: at most $1.09.

One product, 20 category ads studied and 5 broken down, 4 scenes, 2 headline images, one 5-second clip.

This catalog-based reservation maximum belongs to the playbook’s inputs, separately from this guide’s worked example. It is not an executed charge. Optional calls, funding fees, taxes and model usage are excluded.

## Questions

### Is there a single API for web search, scraping and image generation?

Agentik exposes supported tools in these categories through its REST API and MCP server. The discovery and execution interface is shared; each tool still defines its own inputs and output.

### Can I use the same tools from several agent clients?

Compatible MCP clients can connect to Agentik, and applications can use REST. Your chosen client's permissions and tool support still apply.

### Do I need to put provider credentials in a prompt?

No. Agentik handles access for supported provider tools. Keep Agentik credentials in the authorized connection or server environment, never in a copied prompt.

### Can I switch providers without changing my application?

The transport and billing account can stay the same, but a different tool can require different inputs, return another format and charge by a different unit. Inspect and adapt the workflow.
