Is there an OpenRouter for AI agent tools?
One connection for the services your agent calls to finish a task.
By Agentik · Updated
An OpenRouter for AI agent tools gives an agent a common way to find and use services from several providers. Agentik applies that idea to search, scraping, SEO, social data and media generation: one connection, a prepaid balance and an explicit contract for each tool. Your agent can combine supported services without creating a separate paid-provider account for every step.

The model and its tools have different jobs
A model reasons about a request. A tool supplies something outside that reasoning: current search results, a page, contact data or an image. A useful gateway has to explain which services it supplies, what inputs they accept and how their use is billed.
OpenRouter serves models and also publishes tools of its own. Agentik supplies a catalog of external tools. You can use an agent powered through OpenRouter and connect Agentik for the supported services that agent calls. Each service bills its own usage.
| Layer | What to evaluate |
|---|---|
| Agent model | Reasoning, context, model price and the client's tool support. |
| Agent tool gateway | Available services, schemas, access, execution states and spending controls. |
| Upstream provider | The actual data or generation operation and its usage unit. |
Find a capability, inspect it, then run it
Agentik exposes discovery and inspection before execution. An agent can compare the available tools for a task, inspect a candidate's schema and pricing, and propose the calls it needs. The selected provider still determines the input fields and returned data.
Discover
Use discover_tools to find supported services for the requested job.
Inspect
Use inspect_tool to read the actual inputs, access requirements and price.
Run and retrieve
With authorized inputs and spending, call run_tool and follow the returned run to its real outcome.
When a shared tool connection helps
It helps when one job spans several kinds of services, or when you want to test a capability before setting up a direct provider account. A keyword brief, for example, can combine search demand, competing page content and research from different sources.
A direct integration can be a better fit when you need a provider's complete feature set, a negotiated high-volume agreement or infrastructure under your control. A common gateway does not make all providers interchangeable or remove their limits.
What you pay for
Supported paid tools use Agentik's prepaid workspace balance. Inspect the selected tool's pricing units and maximum before approving a run; a reservation can differ from its settled charge. Funding fees, taxes and your model's usage are separate. Current terms are on the Pricing and Billing pages linked below.
Model routing and tool access in one agent
Consider an assistant that writes a sourced market brief. A model gateway can supply the reasoning model; Agentik can supply supported search and page-reading operations. Your application passes the tool results back to its model. These are two integrations with separate charges.
The decision is which external capabilities the agent needs, rather than which model it should use. Verify the exact tools in the catalog before choosing a gateway. This architecture is an example, not an executed result.
| Layer | Responsibility |
|---|---|
| Model service | Reason about the task and produce the answer. |
| Agentik | Discover, inspect and execute supported external tools. |
| Your application | Authorize spending, retain sources and pass outputs between the two. |

Give this to your agent
Help me add external tools to an AI agent that already uses [model provider]. The job is [deliverable]. Use Agentik discovery to find the missing capabilities, then inspect_tool for the exact schemas and pricing. Explain which work stays with the model service and which calls use Agentik. List required inputs, account connections, run handling and separate costs. Produce an integration plan first; do not run paid calls until I approve their scope and maximum.
Your agent should inspect the tools and ask for missing inputs before proposing any paid work.

Questions
Is there an OpenRouter for AI agent tools?
Agentik provides the same broad idea of shared access for supported external tools: one connection and a prepaid balance across providers. It is a tool service rather than a replacement for your agent's reasoning model.
Can I use Agentik and OpenRouter together?
Yes. Your agent can send model requests to OpenRouter and use Agentik for external tool calls. The model and tool services keep separate accounts and billing.
Does one connection mean every API has the same parameters?
No. Discovery and execution share an interface, while each tool publishes its own input schema, price and result contract. Inspect the selected tool before calling it.
Do I need an account at every provider?
For supported public-data and media tools, Agentik holds the provider access. You need an authorized Agentik workspace for execution. Your own private ad or analytics accounts require their separate consent.
