How can my AI agent collect public social media data?
Give AI agents access to public social media data through Agentik.
By Agentik · Updated
An agent can inspect supported public profile and post tools to collect social observations without integrating each provider separately. Define the platforms, accounts, period and fields first. Public posts and visible engagement are different from private reach, ad spend or conversion metrics; access to one does not establish access to the other.

Choose public observations or owned-account insights
For competitor research, public posts can show messaging, formats and visible engagement. For your own performance reporting, private-account tools may be required. Those tools need the relevant platform consent and selected account access.
Do not infer reach, sales or profitability from a public like count. Keep the metric label and source exactly as returned, and record unavailable fields explicitly. A comparison becomes misleading if it silently mixes public observations with authenticated private reporting.
Specify the sample and the observation window
A recent-post endpoint can return a limited page, not a complete history. Inspect pagination and returned dates before claiming coverage for a month or year. Preserve post IDs so repeated observations can be deduplicated.
Visible metrics describe the observation time. Historical engagement requires earlier snapshots or a provider that explicitly serves that history. Your application can retain permitted snapshots, but a single current request cannot reconstruct past values.
Normalize without erasing platform differences
Keep native metrics in separate fields before deriving cross-platform summaries. A view can have a different definition across platforms, and some media types expose different counts. State the comparison rule and identify incompatible fields.
For an agent brief, report the accounts checked, number of posts observed, returned period and missing platforms. A narrative built from ten recent posts should describe that sample rather than claim to represent the brand’s entire social strategy.
What you pay for
Supported paid tools use Agentik's prepaid workspace balance. Inspect the selected tool's pricing units and maximum before approving a run; a reservation can differ from its settled charge. Funding fees, taxes and your model's usage are separate. Current terms are on the Pricing and Billing pages linked below.
Audit a recent-post sample transparently
For a competitor social brief, retain the collection boundary with every platform. The following is a reporting template, not fetched social data.
| Field | Evidence to report |
|---|---|
| Account | Handle, URL and platform. |
| Sample | Post count, oldest and newest returned dates, pagination checked. |
| Metrics | Native metric names and observation time. |
| Conclusion | Observed pattern, supporting posts and coverage limitations. |

Give this to your agent
Collect public social observations for [handles] on [platforms] over [period]. Use Agentik discovery and inspect_tool to check fields, pagination, coverage and prices. Quote the initial sample before paid work. After approval, retain post IDs, URLs and collection times. State the returned period and any incomplete coverage. Keep native metrics separate, and do not infer private reach, revenue or historic counts from current public observations.
Your agent should inspect the tools and ask for missing inputs before proposing any paid work.
A related workflow
Posts on X, Hacker News threads, YouTube comments and news coverage, read together and sorted into themes.
200 posts on X and 20 author profiles, 70 Hacker News results, comments on 3 YouTube videos, 20 news results.
This catalog-based reservation maximum belongs to the playbook’s inputs, separately from this guide’s worked example. It is not an executed charge. Optional calls, funding fees, taxes and model usage are excluded.

Can public social tools read private analytics?
No. Private insights require a supported authorized account connection. A public profile tool does not supply that permission.
Can one call provide a full historical dataset?
Only if its documented output and pagination support that scope. Inspect the returned coverage and report gaps.
